Welcome Back!
We hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break. We are looking forward to another exciting term. We are continuing with our 2-week timetable this year. The children have fed back how much they enjoy experiencing their favourite subjects all year round and we have seen the benefits in their retention of knowledge. We have an exciting curriculum across the school and we can't wait to get started!
History
Stone Age
This term in history, we will be learning about the fascinating history of the Stone Age. We will learn about the various time periods including old and new Stone Age (Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic), the Bronze Age and the Iron Age and how people lived and what they did to survive. The children will have the exciting opportunity to explore artefacts from these time periods as well as recreate and understand what life was like for people during the Stone Age.

India
This term in Music, our project will be exploring Indian Instrumental music. We will be learning about the history and key features of Bollywood films and how ambient sounds can be used to enhance a film score. As well as this, we will practise staff notation and perform a film sequence using instruments and movement.

Textiles
This term in D&T, we will develop skills in threading needles and joining fabric shapes using a range of stitches to create a functional bag. Our evaluation of existing products will help us to decide on who our bag is for as well as confirming design features.

Making Monotypes
Children are going to explore the process of making monotypes. They will study the work of Kevork Mourad to find out about the concepts and processes that he uses. Our project this term will give them the opportunity to use the monotype process (combined with painting and collage) to make a final piece inspired by poetry.

Mountains
This term in Geography, we will be investigating why people choose to live in mountainous areas. We will use important map skills to help us locate the world's mountain ranges with a particular focus on Mount Everest found in the Himalayas. We will explore this topic through geological concepts.

- How are mountains formed and is this the same for all mountains?

Muslims in Britain today?
This term in RE, we will learn about Muslim beliefs about God, the Prophet and the Holy Qur'an. They will find out about Muslim sources of authority and how they guide daily living for believers. Pupils will learn about ibadah and links to the Five Pillars, festivals, and places of worship. We will learn about submission, obedience, generosity, self-control and worship; making clear links to how these are lived out in the lives of Muslims today.

Properties and Changes of Materials
This term in science, we will be comparing materials and their properties. We will investigate how materials are combined to act as effective insulators, use our prior knowledge of evaporation to understand absorption in materials and conduct practical enquiry investigations to explore dissolving and filtering.

This term in PE, we will be covering the following sports:
- Gymnastics (Indoor) — techniques for controlling their body while developing flexibility, balance, strength and coordination
- Handball (Outdoor) — important tactics and the value of teamwork for defending and attacking
Computing
We know how important it is for our children to be ICT literate. This term in computing we will be:
- Learning how to mute or unmute audio on a computer or a tablet
- Using a search engine to effectively find information and images
- Recognising that there is more than one search engine and they may produce different results

Homework
Your child will receive a homework sheet each week with a variety of spellings, maths and reading questions. New sheets will be released each Friday due the following Thursday.
10 minutes of TTRS each week will continue to support your child with their multiplication fluency.
To encourage a love of reading, we ask that your child reads at home every day. We keep a record of changing books in class which supports school staff to monitor reading at home.
